About Kumarakom

Kumarakom is a home to many variety of flora and fauna. There is a noted Bird Sanctuary on the northern side of Kumarakom, where many species of migratory birds visit. The Vembanad Lake, the largest backwater in South East Asia, is habitat for many marine species. The bird sanctuary extends over 20 acres. and came into existence following preservation efforts from the Kerala State Government. It is one of the major tourist attractions in Kumarakom.
